These days, the UK’s high streets are full of all kind of exciting restaurants and cafés, with food from each corner of the globe, including sushi, tapas, Southeast Asian cuisine and more.
However, sometimes the classics have stuck around for a reason and Italian is probably the nation’s favourite food!
But why do we love Italian so much, and why should it be on the menu next time you go for a meal out?
Keeping Everybody Happy
Everyone has their own tastes and preferences, which is great, but sometimes, you just want to keep as many people happy as possible.
There’s always one fussy eater in a group, but generally speaking, you can’t go too far wrong with Italian!
As one of the world’s most popular foods, you can almost guarantee that the majority of your group will be happy to eat Italian, and with such a great range of food on offer, there’s enough variety on offer to keep everyone satisfied.
While we’re not saying it’s basic or bland, Italian food is kept simple enough that even those who usually don’t stray too far from a steak and ale pie or bangers and mash should be able to find something to enjoy, while still feeling positively continental.
You can probably even just order a plate of chips if someone’s being particularly fussy!
Italian food isn’t just incredibly tasty, but it can also be very good for you as well. Obviously, this is going to vary depending on the restaurant that you eat in, but broadly speaking, Italian food is packed with nutrients.
We spoke to Bella Cosa, an Italian restaurant in Canary Wharf, who said: “We only use the finest Italian ingredients in our meals, which can have multiple health benefits.
“Lots of the dishes are based in garlic or olive oil, which contain lots of antioxidants, and of course, there are lots of tomatoes and herbs too!”

It Tastes Great
All of the other reasons are great, but the real reason you want to eat out is to enjoy yourself and enjoy some top quality food!
Thankfully, Italian food tastes amazing and because all of the areas of Italy have their own distinct cuisine, there’s a plethora of choice to ensure that there’ll be something on the menu that you’ll enjoy.
In Italy, the focus is firmly on the flavour, and not on fancy preparation or presentation and great care and passion go in to every dish.
And because Italian food is so simple to make, this usually means that the restaurants can keep their costs relatively low, which is always nice!
So next time you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or perhaps just fancy treating yourself, why not go Italian?
